چکیده
Abstract Desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria (Forskål) (Orthoptera: Acrididae), swarms during outbreaks, and plagues can invade many countries across vast regions of Africa Asia, consuming substantial quantities crops rangeland vegetation. In the most recent desert locust episode, which originated in Saudi Arabia’s remote interior June 2018, entered Pakistan March 2019, devastating important crops, such as cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L.; wheat, Triticum aestivum maize, Zea mays L., >60 districts Baluchistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh provinces. A national emergency was declared on 1 February 2020. 2020 Department Plant Protection responded by conducting surveillance control operations with assistance other Pakistani organizations, multilateral bilateral international aid agencies. Surveillance were performed ground air, applying mostly oil-based ultra-low volume insecticide formulations combined some nonconventional tactics. The government also established a detailed multi-phased policy National Locust Control Center rapid response units deployed to vulnerable districts. To prevent or mitigate locust-associated agricultural damage, additional improvements approaches are needed. locust’s unique behaviors, magnitude intermittency swarming episodes, pose challenges development implementation coherent integrated pest management strategies. status possible approach management, including proactive preventive intervention strategies, is discussed.

Preventing desert locust plagues: optimizing management interventions
Solitarious desert locusts, Schistocerca gregaria (Forskål) (Orthoptera: Acrididae), inhabit the central, arid, and semi-arid parts of the species’ invasion area in Africa, the Middle East, and South-West Asia. Their annual migration circuit takes them downwind to breed sequentially where winter, spring, and summer rains fall. In many years, sparse and erratic seasonal rains support phase chang...

The involvement of associative learning cues has been demonstrated in several stages of feeding and food selection. Short neuropeptide F (sNPF), an insect neuropeptide whose effects on feeding behavior have previously been well established, may be one of the factors bridging feeding and learning behavior. Recently, it was shown in Drosophila melanogaster that the targeted reduction of Drome-sNP...
متن کاملDynamics and stability of directional jumps in the desert locust
Locusts are known for their ability to jump large distances to avoid predation. The jump also serves to launch the adult locust into the air in order to initiate flight. Various aspects of this important behavior have been studied extensively, from muscle physiology and biomechanics, to the energy storage systems involved in powering the jump, and more. Less well understood are the mechanisms p...

Studies of mating and reproductive behavior have contributed much to our understanding of various animals' ecological success. The desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria, is an important agricultural pest. However, knowledge of locust courtship and precopulatory behavior is surprisingly limited. Here we provide a comprehensive study of the precopulatory behavior of both sexes of the desert locust...

The desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria (Forskål) (Orthoptera: Acrididae), and the brown-spotted locust, Cyrtacanthacris tatarica (Linné) (Orthoptera: Acrididae), were collected from Saudi Arabia to investigate their relationships. Native polyacrylamide gel electrophoreses of five arbitrarily chosen metabolic enzymes extracted from the leg muscles of the two locust taxa were conducted. These e...
